Located in Ankara, Turkey, the TED University project was a massive undertaking, spanning a total area of 40,000 m2 and comprising six buildings. The spaces, which include classrooms, meeting rooms, offices, lecturer rooms, a café, a conference room, a foyer, clubs, a sports centre, and a library, were all designed with a modern concept that reflects the forward-thinking direction of the TED institution.
The project's unique properties lie in its innovative use of space and materials. The design team, led by Onur Karlidag, Deniz Karlidag, and Huseyin Yerturk, utilized concrete, glass, and raw wood to create a timeless aesthetic. The connection of spatial layers to all school units is facilitated by directive linear lighting elements, a testament to the project's technological integration.
One of the significant challenges faced during the project was the implementation of new production techniques for the realization of the linear lighting elements. However, the team's dedication and expertise enabled them to overcome these hurdles, resulting in a design that is as functional as it is visually appealing.
The project's design process was driven by a desire to create a new spatial experience for users. The team's research focused on exploring beyond the use of materials to create a fourth-dimensional space. This innovative approach has resulted in a university space that breaks away from traditional conventions and offers a fresh perspective on educational environments.
The TED University project by Craft312 studio is a shining example of how design, innovation, and technology can come together to revolutionize spaces. The project's success, as evidenced by its Silver A' Design Award, is a testament to the team's creativity, technical prowess, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of design.
